Report of the UNFCCC COP23 Japan Pavilion Side Event in Bonn, Germany
The Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) contributions towards achievement of the NDCs
The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) and the Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center, Japan (OECC) held a side event called “The Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) contributions towards achievement of the NDCs” at the Japan Pavilion during the UNFCCC’s 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP23).
Japan and 17 partner countries are cooperatively developing and implementing the JCM, which is an international market based mechanism in active operation. The JCM appropriately evaluates contributions in GHG emissions reduction/removal in a quantitative manner, and uses them to achieve emission reduction target stated in each NDC. From the perspective of NDC implementation, what kind of JCM projects should be promoted? In this side event, panelists from project participants, MOEJ and JCM partner countries reported and discussed the recent progress, achievements and expectations on the implementation of the JCM as well as a lively question and answer session that was held by national parties and experts such as JCM secretariats who actively participated in the discussion.
