Outcome Report of Exhibition Booth and Side Event

Asia Pacific Carbon Forum (APCF) 2016 was held from 5 to 7 September 2016 in Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, in conjunction with Global Green Growth Week (GGGWeek 2016). APCF is jointly organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), in collaboration with the Global Green Growth Institute.

Exhibition Booth

The Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center, Japan (OECC) provided information on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and its supporting programmes, distributing information materials to the visitors at an exhibition booth.

Conference participants including but not limited to government institutions, multi-lateral development banks, regional UN Agencies, as well as verification/validation entities visited the OECC booth with their respective views and inquiries about the JCM, including its latest status, designs and rules, and requirements for participation, showing their keen interests in the JCM.

Side Event

The Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in the Asia-Pacific Region

Japan and 16 partner countries have established and are implementing the JCM, which is one of international market based mechanisms in active operation. Also, use of market mechanisms, including the JCM, is under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement prescribes for the use of emission reductions realized overseas towards national emission reduction targets. The recent progress, achievements and expectations on the implementation of the JCM was reported and discussed. The event was attended by around 40 participants including those from private sectors, government officials and experts.
