[Result]Webinar for the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) utilization in Kenya (1 March 2023)

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan organized “Webinar for the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) utilisation in Kenya” with Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Kenya on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. This webinar received more than 90 applications from 8 countries including Kenya and Japan.

In the webinar, the opening remarks was provided by Mr. Takayuki Shigematsu, Planning Officer for the JCM, the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, and by Mr. Augustine Kenduiwo, Deputy Director, Climate Change Directorate, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Kenya, followed by presentations. Then Climate Change Directorate, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Kenya explained a recent situation of carbon market and JCM in Kenya and the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, explained recent development of the JCM. Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) then introduced Japan’s support for the JCM partner countries. In addition, AAIC Japan Co., Ltd. and PACIFIC CONSULTANTS CO., LTD. introduced existing JCM projects in Kenya and presented the process of JCM projects’ formation in Kenya. Towards the end of the webinar, a lively Q&A session was held to discuss the expansion and utilization of JCM in Kenya

From the results of the questionnaire, many respondents were generally satisfied with the content of the webinar and gained a better understanding of the process of JCM and existing JCM projects in Kenya. The comments received will be used for future improvements. Please refer to the movies uploaded below for presentations and a Q&A session with participants.

The outputs of the JCM webinar is expected to foster understandings for JCM and to lead to development and further expansion of JCM projects in Kenya.
