[Event Report] Webinar on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Implementation in the Republic of Uzbekistan, November 2, 2023.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan and with the collaboration of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Tashkent Office, held the "Webinar on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Implementation in the Republic of Uzbekistan" on Thursday, November 2, 2023. More than 100 participants from Uzbekistan and Japan signed up for the webinar.

Followed by the opening remarks by Mr. Kawashima, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Uzbekistan, and opening remarks by Mr. Shokhzod Islamov, the Head of the Green Economy Development Department of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MoEF), METI Japan gave a presentation on the recent developments of the JCM.

The Tashkent Office of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) introduced the CO2 emission reduction technology and business trends in Uzbekistan. Then, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) introduced the NEDO JCM Demonstration Project and presented the project formation process.

Hanwa Co., Ltd., which was selected for the JCM Feasibility Study by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) this fiscal year is currently conducting the study, introduced the details of the JCM FS study. Pacific Consultants Co., Ltd. presented the key points of the JCM FS application. A lively Q&A session on the implementation and utilization of JCM in Uzbekistan followed this.

The results of the questionnaire to the participants after the webinar showed that generally responded that they would like to consider using METI's JCM FS and NEDO's JCM Demonstration Project scheme in the future and that the webinar content was informative. The secretariat will use the comments received for future reference.

It is hoped that the webinar will foster a better understanding of JCM in Uzbekistan and lead to the consideration and implementation of specific JCM FS projects and NEDO JCM demonstration projects in the future.

Based on this webinar, it is hoped that an understanding of JCM in Uzbekistan will be fostered, leading to the consideration and implementation of specific JCM FS Projects/NEDO JCM Demonstration Projects/Private-Sector JCM projects in the future.
