Summary

Since the establishment of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) toward the decarbonization and sustainable development of the partner countries, Ministry of the Environment, Japan has been developing and implementing mitigation actions through the JCM consistent with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
This seminar focused on progress review and outlook on implementing Article 6 the Paris Agreement including the introduction of activities under Article 6 Implementation Partnership (A6IP) which was launched at COP 27 and JCM project development that have been developing under the partnership between ASEAN countries and the Government of Japan.

The seminar began with opening remarks by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Lao PDR (MoNRE), and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan delivered the presentation on the latest trends in the JCM, the activities of the Article 6 Implementation Partnership (A6IP), and future efforts with ASEAN countries.
MoNRE presented on the status of JCM project development in Lao PDR, related policies, priority sectors, issues, capacity building needs in Lao PDR toward the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and future activity plans related to the implementation of the JCM and Article 6.
Ministry of Environment, Cambodia presented the background of the JCM implementation in Cambodia, the status of JCM project development in Cambodia, and related policies such as NDC and Long Term Strategy for Carbon Neutrality (LTS4CN) in preparation for the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) delivered a presentation on cooperation with the governments of any countries in the implementation of the Paris Agreement, including A6IP, and the content of ADB's support for the implementation of Article 6 in developing countries.
