[Invitation] Webinar for the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) utilization in the Independent State of Papua New Guinea

The Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan intends to organize a webinar to introduce the JCM to stakeholders in the Independent State of Papua New Guinea.

At the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) held in Glasgow (the United Kingdom) in 2021, the general framework of the Paris Agreement Article 6 was agreed upon. With the market mechanism being applied it was expected that greenhouse gas emissions would decrease worldwide. The government of Japan, pioneering the implementation of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)* based on the Paris Agreement Article 6, will contribute to a global decarbonization toward net zero emissions by increasing JCM partner countries. As a part of this approach, the Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan uses the JCM Financing Programme and JFJCM for further diffusion of the decarbonization or low-carbon technologies widely applied in the JCM partner countries including other island countries.

The webinar will be participated by government officials and related private entities in Papua New Guinea, and it aims at exploring challenges and needs in climate change mitigation measures in Papua New Guinea and sharing an overview and outputs of the JCM to promote further expansion of JCM.
